NEW: A deputy was hospitalized with significant injuries on Friday after being attacked by a murder suspect inside the Cobb County Georgia Adult Detention Center, according to authorities.

The attack happened inside the facility as the deputy was working, according to the Cobb County Sheriff's Office.
Officials stated the deputy was taken to a hospital, where medical staff treated him for a broken jaw and a concussion.

The detainee who attacked the officer is currently being held at the jail as a murder suspect awaiting extradition to Tennessee, according to authorities.
