NEW: A man has been charged after police say he ran over an Eastpointe officer with a trailer and led officers on a chase into Detroit, MDN reports.

Police responded to English Gardens at 22501 Kelly Road around 1:40 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25, after a report of a man prowling inside the closed business. Officers stopped a landscaping truck driven by Jeremy Johnson, 38, and said its trailer had no plate and carried items from the store.

When told to get out because he was under arrest, Johnson started the truck and accelerated, police said. The truck struck an officer at the driver’s door, and the trailer rolled over his legs. The officer was treated and released.

Police said Johnson tried to hit several police vehicles during the chase. His damaged trailer scattered landscaping tools across the road, damaging at least one police car. He eventually bailed out, fled on foot and tried to sit on a porch and disguise himself before being arrested.
