NEW: A Kansas City police motorcycle officer was hurt in a crash while trying to stop a speeding car in a school zone in Northland Thursday morning, a police spokesman said.

The crash occurred shortly before 8:20 a.m. near Northeast 108th Street and North Richmond Avenue in Kansas City, North, said Sgt. Phil DiMartino of the Kansas City Police Department.

The officer was working school zone enforcement on the south side of Northeast 108th Street near Kelly Brook Elementary and Rising Hill Elementary schools, DiMartino said.

As the officer attempted to catch up to a speeding vehicle, the motorcycle crashed. The officer was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Please join us in sending prayers and, or positive thoughts for his recovery🙏🏻
