🔬 PhD Opportunity in Quantum Engineering of Semiconductor Nanostructures for Photovoltaics at the Institute for Optoelectronic Systems and Microtechnology (UPM)

📚 We are looking for a highly motivated student to join our group at the Institute for Optoelectronic Systems and Microtechnology (ISOM-UPM) and pursue a PhD within the framework of the ERC Consolidator Grant project Quantum-engineered lattice-matched III-V-on-Si multijunction solar cells (MIRACLE, www.erc-miracle.eu).

This position will be directly funded by the project, so the candidate will not need to apply for or obtain a separate PhD scholarship to cover the position.

🔎 MIRACLE aims to develop quantum-engineered, lattice-matched III-V-on-Si multijunction solar cells, using dilute-nitride short-period superlattices fabricated by Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) with atomic-layer control. The PhD research will involve the MBE growth of III-V semiconductor materials and nanostructures, their structural, optical and electronic characterization, as well as the fabrication and characterization of solar cells, with opportunities for collaboration with leading international research groups.

🌐 The successful candidate will join a large and international research environment, comprising senior researchers, postdoctoral researchers and PhD students, and will carry out their research at ISOM-UPM, one of Spains leading research infrastructures in micro- and nanotechnology (www.isomupm.com).

🎓 Requirements
Be under 30 years old at the time of recruitment.
Be unemployed until the day before recruitment.
Hold Bachelors and Masters degrees in a field related to Physics, Materials Engineering or Electronic Engineering.
For foreign degrees requiring recognition in Spain, hold the corresponding official recognition/homologation at the time of recruitment.
Being resident or registered in the Community of Madrid is not required.

📅 Expected starting date: late 2026 / early 2027, subject to the final resolution and subsequent recruitment procedure.
