📢 The Gibbons Research Group at Trinity College Dublin is inviting applications for a fully funded 4-year PhD on:

🔬 Machine Learning for the Design of Additively Manufactured Two-Phase Heat Transfer Surfaces
The project combines:

🤖 Physics-informed machine learning
🌊 Two-phase flow & flow boiling
🔥 Heat transfer
🧩 Topology optimisation
🖨 Additive manufacturing

The goal is to develop next-generation heat-transfer surfaces for applications such as high-power electronics and data-centre cooling. The project combines computational design with experimental fabrication and testing.

💰 Funding: €25,000/year stipend + PhD registration fees

🌍 Eligibility: EU & non-EU students

⏳ Duration: 48 months

📅 Deadline: 30 September 2026

🎯 Relevant backgrounds include:
• Mechanical Engineering
• Chemical Engineering
• Aerospace Engineering
• Applied Mathematics
• Physics
• Computer Science

💻 Programming experience, ideally in Python, and an interest in machine learning, heat transfer, optimisation, or computational modelling are particularly relevant. You are not expected to have experience in all areas; training is provided.
