🎓 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗟𝗔𝗠-𝗖𝗠𝗣 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟳 — 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝗔𝗜 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘆-𝗕𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝘀
I'm excited to share that we are organizing 𝗦𝗟𝗔𝗠-𝗖𝗠𝗣 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟳, a residential school taking place 𝟮𝟮–𝟮𝟴 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟳 at the 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗗𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴, Cameroon, as part of the Max Planck Society's "Bridging Minds" Africa Initiative.
The school is built around a simple idea: modern many-body and condensed matter physics is increasingly shaped by data-driven methods, and the next generation of researchers should be fluent in both. Over the week, participants will get:
🔹 A solid grounding in ML/AI fundamentals: from supervised/unsupervised learning to hands-on PyTorch labs
🔹 A deep dive into neural quantum states (RBMs, MLPs, RNNs, Transformers as variational ansätze)
🔹 Advanced topics: CNNs, graph neural networks, PINNs
🔹 A dedicated track of state-of-the-art lectures on condensed matter physics
🔹 Poster sessions with awards, mentoring and career-development sessions, and a cultural excursion in Dschang
Only 𝟳𝟬 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝘁𝘀 are available, open to advanced BSc, MSc, and PhD students (including early-career researchers) in physics, ML, or related fields.
📢 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀: We are welcoming applications to lecture in the machine learning track and to give talks in the state-of-the-art condensed matter physics track.
