🎓 An exciting opportunity!
💥 Canada Impact+ Research Training Awards (CIRTA) | Quantum (PhD + Postdoc)
🗂 CIRTA is a new tri-agency initiative to recruit outstanding international (and Canada-abroad) talent into priority areas including quantum technologies. Doctoral awards are $40,000/year (3 years) and postdoctoral awards are $70,000/year (2 years).
📚 I am inviting expressions of interest from exceptionally strong graduate students and postdocs who would like to be considered for a CIRTA nomination in quantum. I hold the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Photonic Quantum Science and Technologies and run a dual-lab programme spanning University of Calgary (Canada) and the QuIC Lab at Raman Research Institute (India).
🔎 This creates a rare training environment with international co-supervision, complementary ecosystems, and genuine cross-continental collaboration (theory and experiment).
📝 Research themes of interest :
· Photonic quantum information (including integrated photonics)
· Solid-state quantum systems and quantum memories (diamond vacancies, etc.)
· Quantum communications and quantum networks (including repeater / memory-assisted architectures)
· Foundations-driven quantum theory and experiments.
📥 If you have a truly competitive profile, please write to me with:
• your CV
• a 1-page case (your proposed direction, why you are competitive for CIRTA, and why my dual-lab/CERC platform is the right host environment)
• 2–3 best papers/preprints + a brief contribution statement
📌 Important: nominations are limited and CIRTA is highly competitive, so please reach out only if you have a strong, evidence-backed case. This is time sensitive so please email me latest by 11th January 2026 at urbasi.sinha@ucalgary.ca
with a copy to usinha@rri.res.in and the CERC project coordinator Ms. Jessica Webber at jessica.webber@ucalgary.ca.
