​​How unicellular organisms evolved into multicellular ones is an open question. Now, using unicellular 𝑆𝘵𝑒𝘯𝑡𝘰𝑟 𝑐𝘰𝑒𝘳𝑢𝘭𝑒𝘶𝑠 as a model system, the transition between isolated individuals and a coordinated colony is shown to benefit all members.
