The primary focus of this PhD position is to investigate the molecular mechanisms by which the DNA/RNA-binding proteins FUS and TDP-43 contribute to the suppression of R-loops and DNA repair—processes that are intimately linked to neurodegenerative diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Persistent R-loops and DNA damage have been implicated in the pathogenesis of these disorders, but the exact mechanisms remain poorly understood.
