👨‍💻 SoftBank CEO Calls AI Bubble Talk "Absurd"

By 2040, AI could account for around 20% of global GDP, and annual spending on the infrastructure needed to support it could reach $5 trillion, according to Masayoshi Son.

On that scale, he says, calling AI a bubble makes no sense.

✏️ Son has long been one of the tech industry's most outspoken AI optimists. SoftBank is investing heavily in OpenAI—its total investment in the company is expected to exceed $60 billion by the end of 2026. The Japanese giant is also helping finance the construction of new data centers.

💡 By Son's logic, some of the biggest names in tech "don't know ⁠what AI is about." That list would include Sam Altman, Jeff Bezos, and Alibaba cofounder Joe Tsai, all of whom have previously warned that the AI market could be in a bubble.

Late last year, for example, Bezos described the current boom as an "industrial bubble": the technology itself is real, but many questionable startups are still raising billions of dollars.

You can create a game from a prompt, refine the prototype in the chat, play it and share with friends.

"Under the hood" are both open source and proprietary AI models. The AI handles gameplay, environments, characters, sounds and even interactive 3D objects and scenes.

The public alpha for Build starts on July 28, initially for users in New Zealand.

TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and other platforms would be unavailable to 16- and 17-year-olds from midnight to 6 a.m. Teens can turn the restrictions off at any time—they're on by default, not mandatory.

Next spring, the UK will enforce a full social media ban for kids under 16. The curfew is designed to smooth the transition: instead of hitting a "cliff edge" at 16, teens would ease into social media gradually.

The militants reportedly bypass chatbot safety restrictions by rephrasing their prompts or switching between different AI models. The report's author, Dr. Antonia Julich, calls on AI companies, intelligence agencies, and researchers to share information about such cases more actively.

She also argues that AI safety testing should focus not only on large-scale attack scenarios but also on everyday tasks that can gradually make terrorist organizations more effective.
