Apple has announced that Tim Cook, who has run the company for the past 15 years, will assume the role of Executive Chairman starting September 1.
Cook, 65, will be replaced as CEO by John Ternus, 50, who currently leads Apple's Hardware Engineering team. During Cook's time in charge, Apple's market value grew from $350 billion to $4 trillion.
Rumors about Ternus taking over as Apple's next CEO have been circulating since last year.
