🖥 Startup Aims to Produce Chips on Satellites

UK-based Space Forge has closed a $30 million funding round to propel its goal of fabricating advanced materials and semiconductors in space. The company plans to launch ForgeStar-1 in 2025 to prove it can create compounds that Earth-based factories cannot.

Manufacturing in Low Earth Orbit's microgravity offers clear benefits for semiconductor crystal growth. Without gravity-driven convection or sedimentation, crystals grow larger, more uniform, and with fewer defects—over 70% of space-based trials have outperformed their terrestrial equivalents in quality and consistency.
