🐤 Duolingo Will Replace Contractors With AI

Duolingo has announced plans to become an "AI-first" company. CEO Luis von Ahn wrote in a company-wide email that the language learning platform will gradually phase out contract workers in favor of AI for tasks that can be automated. In January 2024, the company already decided to cut 10% of its contractors as it began using AI for content generation.

Critics have raised concerns about the quality and reliability of AI-generated educational content. While von Ahn acknowledged potential "occasional small hits on quality," questions remain about how effectively automated systems can replace human judgment in language education.
