Materials Magnetized with Light

Physicists at MIT have developed a way to magnetize materials using light. This technique works incredibly fast—in just 50 picoseconds (that's 50 trillionths of a second). It allows them to control the magnetic properties of both normal and non-magnetic materials. This breakthrough could lead to energy-efficient memory devices, advances in quantum computing, and new technologies in electronics.
