If you run a Telegram channel, you’ve probably dealt with spam in the comments more times than you can count. And lately, it’s getting worse: scam bots, fake job offers, drug ads, or just endless fights between subscribers. As a result, moderation takes more time and attention than ever.
Here are the main issues with managing comments today:
1. The banning flow takes too long
To block a user, you need to: hold the message → tap “Delete” → go through a modal with several options you have to reconfigure every single time. That’s around 6 taps just to ban one person. And if you want to apply a temporary restriction, you have to open the group settings on top of that.
2. Different types of spam, same repetitive process
Most spam falls into a few common categories: fake job posts, channel ads, scam bots, flooding, or aggressive commenters. Each type requires a different action — some users only need a short mute, others should be permanently banned right away. But even though these situations repeat constantly, moderators still have to manually configure the same actions for every new offender.
3. No context behind bans
A few months later, a banned user might message asking to be unbanned. But by then, it’s almost impossible to remember why they were banned in the first place or whether they deserve a second chance.
4. Disabling comments on a post is unintuitive
To turn off comments for a specific post, you need to go into the linked group and delete the post there. It’s so non-obvious that I used to temporarily unlink the discussion group from the channel just to publish a post without comments.
