πanefo is an abbreviation for Games of The New Emerging Forces or Developing Countries Sports Festival. Ganefo is a sports event held by Soekarno as a rival to the Olympics. In the journal entitled Ganefo as a vehicle for realizing Soekarno's conception of foreign policy 1963-1967, it was stated that Ganefo was a form of foreign policy to change Indonesia's role in the world as the leader of a new, developing country. Ganefo is part of the history of the Indonesian people in fighting western imperialism in the field of sports. Ganefo was held as a result of the conflict between the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Indonesia.
πanefo was first held in Jakarta on November 10 1963. This sporting event was attended by around 2,700 athletes from 51 developing countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Europe.
"πanefo is a historical event that is expected to be able to rekindle a sense of nationalism and pride in the nation's future generations."
