β² α³ Λ The UN is adopting the theme for World Oceans Day 2024 as '
Planet Ocean: Tides are Changing'. To celebrate this theme, the UN, along with decision-makers, scientists, private sector executives, civil society representatives, indigenous communities, celebrities, youth activists, and many others, will prioritize the oceans. Despite humans' complete dependence on it, and compared to the vast and profound benefits it provides to humans, the ocean only receives a small portion of human attention and resources in return.γ €γ € Even though all its benefits, the ocean is now in need of support. The ocean requires genuine empathy and sincere action from humans. π
πββ With 90% of big fish populations depleted, and 50% of coral reefs destroyed, we are taking more from the ocean than can be replenished. We need to work together to create a new balance with the ocean that no longer depletes its bounty but instead restores its vibrancy and brings it new life. To remind everyone about the primary role of the ocean in our daily lives. They are the lungs of our planet, providing most of the oxygen we breathe. And, to cultivate human empathy and movement towards the ocean. Happy World Oceans Day π.
