The safety and empowerment of women, particularly journalists, are critical to the health of democracy. We must ensure their lives are free from violence, said Director Philippe Tremblay today at the event "Fighting Online Violence Against Women and Girls".

Yet, much work remains to be done. We will continue to collaborate with OSCE – The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe participating States to achieve the desired results.

We hosted our first Media & Big Tech roundtable, addressing Media Sustainability in the age of platform power & AI.

Today, we face a convergence of profound challenges:
➡️The significant influence of big tech platforms;
➡️The transformative impact of AI;
➡️ The destabilizing effects of disinformation.

It is imperative to support journalists who uphold highest ethical standards, often at great personal risk. Their commitment to reporting relevant facts underpins the essential link between democracy and security, said Officer-in-Charge Philippe Tremblay.

In addition to @OSCE_RFoM assisting participating States in implementing their #MediaFreedom commitments, close cooperation with civil society is essential for fostering positive and sustainable change at the local level.

At a time when the importance of #MediaFreedom, as a core pillar of comprehensive security, is being questioned, we must collectively uphold the Helsinki principles to rebuild peace, said Officer-in-Charge Philippe Tremblay at the Parallel Civil Society Conference. #OSCEMC24
