Did you know that Njegoš planned to mint a coin in 1851 called PERUN?
The Golden Perun was intended to be the first Montenegrin currency, but due to Njegoš’s death that same year, the project was never fully completed. A wax impression of the proposed coin has survived, bearing the inscriptions GOLDEN PERUN and MONTENEGRO 1851.
The design is especially interesting because it features a snake biting its own tail, the ouroboros, an ancient symbol of eternity, endless cycles, and renewal.
