Short videos, endless feeds, and other elements or features of the common “social media” platforms do have a negative effect on our socializing skills and brain. I used to doomscroll YouTube, until I started to force myself to read books.

Been working on Afterglow since this March, and my schedule got really tight during the last few weeks, almost to a point where I wanted to leave it alone. But we were able to release the base system for i486 before AOSCC, and I’m very glad that there are many people who still interested in Afterglow.

The armv4 port also started a trend with a “scam” ARM based Windows CE laptop, “AIPC”, which became a meme due to its overstated and bogus claims in its advertisement (for example, “never get infected with malware”). People started to buy the laptop to run Linux on it.

There was a phone system set up on the event site — tried dial-up Internet with my ThinkPad X30, and it is fun hearing the modem negotiating. When I started to use computers DSL is already a common thing.

The sample of the physical case for Afterglow installation mediums is also very well designed (but not quite easy to get floppy disks out).

Thanks to the folks at ICU @ HDU, it’s been fun!
