"Colorspaces
People don't talk about colorspaces much; when I talk about "RGB" I used to think it was like anchored in Science or something. But nope, when we say RGB we're usually talking about the sRGB specification which was developed by Microsoft in 1996 in an attempt to get more visual fidelity out of the same number of bits, and compensate for the nonlinearity in CRT monitors  . It's also logarithmic in terms of photons which is roughly linear in terms of human perception
Most modern color work is based on the CIE 1931 color standard, which, in turn, is based on an experiment where a scientist named John Guild asked 7 people to tune a bunch of lamps until they were the same color as other lamps. So all modern models of representing color can essentially be traced back to 7 random french people."
