فصل ۲، قسمت ۸: سوگیری ایدئولوژیک در دیدگاه‌های اقتصادی در گفتگو با محسن جاودانی

در این قسمت از پادکست فلای باتل، علیرضا محمودی با محسن جاودانی دانشیار اقتصاد دانشگاه سایمون فریزر کانادا در مورد مقاله‌اش «چه کسی گفت یا چه گفت؟ تخمین تعصب ایدئولوژیک در دیدگاه‌های اقتصاددانان، که با همکاری ها-جون چانگ نوشته شده است. این مقاله شواهدی تجربی ارائه می‌کند مبنی بر اینکه اقتصاددانان سوگیری ایدئولوژیک را در ارزیابی اظهارات نشان می‌دهند، که با عینیت ادراک خود ایشان در تضاد است.

جاودانی و چانگ با نظرسنجی از بیش از 2400 اقتصاددان در سراسر جهان، دریافتند که فارغ از محتوا، انتساب منبع به طور قابل توجهی بر موافقت اقتصاددانان با گزاره‌های اقتصادی تأثیر می‌گذارد.

علیرضا و محسن در تحلیل مقاله بحث می‌کنند که چگونه سوگیری‌های ذهنی مرتبط با حوزه‌های تحقیقاتی، پیشینه‌ها و مکاتب فکری، باور اقتصاددانان را شکل می‌دهد. این گفتگو خواستار تنوع بیش‌تر دیدگاه‌ها در میان اقتصاددانان برای خدمت به منافع گسترده جامعه است.

محسن جاودانی استاد اقتصاد دانشگاه Simon Fraser است. وی تحصیل در رشته اقتصاد را ابتدا در دانشگاه بهشتی تهران آغاز کرد، مقطع کارشناسی ارشد را در دانشگاه بریتیش کلمبیا ادامه داد و در سال 2012 مدرک دکترای اقتصاد را از دانشگاه سایمون فریزر دریافت کرد.

علیرضا محمودی دانشجوی تحصیلات تکمیلی علوم رفتاری در مدرسه کسب‌وکار آدام اسمیت دانشگاه گلاسگو اسکاتلند است. او همچنین دانش‌آموخته کارشناسی اقتصاد دانشگاه فردوسی مشهد است.

Season 2, Ep.8 - Mohsen Javdani: Ideological Bias in Economic Perspectives

In this episode of the Fly Battle podcast, Alireza Mahmoudi talks with Professor Mohsen Javdani about his paper “Who said or what said? Estimating ideological bias in views among economists,” co-authored with Ha-Joon Chang. The paper provides empirical evidence that economists exhibit ideological bias in evaluating statements, contradicting their self-perceived objectivity.

Using a randomized experiment surveying over 2400 economists globally, Javdani and Chang find that source attribution significantly impacts reported agreement with economic claims. Statements from mainstream sources elicit greater concurrence than identical statements attributed to ideologically divergent economists. This points to unconscious ideological leanings influencing assessments.

Delving into the paper’s analysis, Alireza and Mohsen discuss how implicit biases related to research areas, backgrounds, and schools of thought shape economic thought. The conversation calls for a more transparent diversity of perspectives among economists to serve society’s vast interests. A compelling examination of how subjective bias penetrates the field of economics, challenging assumptions of neutrality.

Mohsen Javdani is an associate professor of economics at the School of Public Policy & Urban Studies at Simon Fraser University. He obtained his doctoral degree in economics from SFU in 2012.

Alireza Mahmoudi is a postgraduate student in behavioural science at the Adam Smith Business School, University of Glasgow, Scotland. He is also a graduate in economics from Ferdowsi University of Mashhad.
