Most OSINT investigations start in the same two places: Facebook and LinkedIn.

That's exactly why they often stall out.

Here's the thing — a David Smith with a locked-down profile tells you nothing. But the same person's old Coderwall account, a forgotten Leetcode ranking, or a Docker Hub project can hand you their skills, location, and real name on a plate.

Developer sites aren't an afterthought in an investigation. They're often the entry point everyone skips — because people don't guard their "hobby project from 10 years ago" the way they guard their social profiles.

And it goes deeper than avatars and bios. Source code itself can leak domains, employers, and even email addresses buried in commit history — the kind of thread that, pulled correctly, unravels into an entire chain of linked identities.

The catch? Some of these profiles are goldmines. Others are completely empty. Knowing which technical platforms are worth your time (and your AI agent's tokens) before you dig in is the difference between a breakthrough and a dead end.

We broke down exactly which developer sites matter, what they leak, and the one GitHub feature most investigators overlook.

Profiles on platforms for visual and text-based notes can be extremely valuable for OSINT.
Sometimes people accidentally make their working notes public, notes that contain email addresses, phone numbers, physical addresses, and other details.

Padlet and Notion modules are included to Noimosiny.

Searching on Google for ‘email/nickname/full name + site:pastebin.com’ is a very old but effective OSINT technique that can sometimes help you find references to a person in data and document leaks.

But don’t forget that Pastebin profiles themselves can also be very informative. Search for them by username on Noimosiny.

A single username usually hits a dead end after just one or two profiles.

Yet almost everyone recycles 2 to 3 handles across work, entertainment, and burner accounts.
Cracking that single secondary nickname is often the exact pivot that blows an investigation wide open — unlocking dozens of hidden profiles, personal photos, and discarded digital footprints.

Finding those hidden aliases isn't guesswork; it’s a cyclical process of connecting digital breadcrumbs without falling into the trap of false attribution.

Read the full breakdown on the exact framework to track down secondary nicknames and properly verify hidden profiles:

One of the biggest breaks in an investigation is finding a page on a business card website that lists links to all of a person’s profiles on the main social media platforms. And these pages often include an email address as well.

Linktree and about.me are included to Noimosiny username search.

On Q&A sites, people may inadvertently reveal a great deal of personal information about themselves in their answers – such as their profession, age, town and interests. And sometimes, these answers are used to promote their own products and websites.

Quora module is included to Noimosiny.

Registration on certain websites may indicate that a person lives in a particular country.

For example, accounts on Sbazar.cz and Rajce are typical of Czechs, whilst those on 7dach and Habr are typical of Russians. Accounts on all these websites can be found using Noimosiny.

Noimosiny can help tech recruiters gather information about cybersecurity specialists.

To this end, the service includes modules from HackerOne (a bug bounty platform) and HackTheBox (virtual labs for developing penetration testing skills).

Noimosiny not only finds profiles on various platforms, but also analyses the information they contain. For example, it plots a timeline of account registration dates.

This helps you see that you’re not dealing with a throwaway email address, but rather someone who has been actively using it for many years.

One of the most valuable things you can find when searching for profiles by username - alongside full names and locations – is other usernames used by the same person.

Sometimes a person might use a particular username only a few times, but you can find dozens of profiles linked to a second username.

Flickr accounts are a very valuable source of information for OSINT. Photos of people and interiors can be used to reverse image searches for profiles on other platforms. Follow and following lists help to find friends and acquaintances.

Flickr module is included to Noimosiny's reverse email search.

Hobby apps sometimes contain a vast amount of personal data. For example, anglers post their favourite fishing spots, complete with geographical coordinates, photos of their faces or unique tattoos on their bodies.

Fishbrain module is included in Noimosiny reverse username and search searching for 20M+ anglers worldwide.

Stealer info (stealer logs) is data about users' devices that has been made publicly available as a result of cyberattacks and malware. You can view part of this info with Noimosiny.

This data provides a wealth of information about the user via their email address, phone or username: part of IP address, device name (like John or Katy), device model, OS version.
