🚆 Deutsche Bahn Postpones the Modernization of Eight of the Most Important Railway Routes
The program for the fundamental modernization of the main routes by 2031 has been reduced from 21 to 13 routes. The remaining eight projects will be postponed until a later date. The affected routes include the sections Frankfurt am Main–Heidelberg, Mannheim–Karlsruhe, Stuttgart–Ulm, and Bremen–Hamburg.
The authorities justify this decision by citing a shortage of construction resources, the overloading of the railway network, and the need to better organize traffic during maintenance work. According to the Transport Ministry’s new plan, priority is to be given to those sections whose modernization will have the greatest effect on the reliability and punctuality of trains.
Germany is thus forced to slow down the modernization of one of Europe’s most important transport systems. For passengers and freight transport, this means that the accumulated infrastructure problems will persist longer than planned.
