🔥 Europe faces a shortfall of 14 billion cubic meters of gas in the coming winter

The European Union could be forced to cut natural gas consumption by 14 billion cubic meters, or around 7%, warns the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA). At the beginning of October, European gas storage facilities were only 72.4% full—the lowest level for this time of year since comparable records began in 2011.

Adding to the difficulties are high energy prices, uncertainty over supplies from the Middle East, and the complete ban on imports of Russian LNG due to come into force in January 2027. Analysts estimate the additional cost of purchasing the missing volumes at around three billion euros. This is not about an inevitable supply interruption, but rather the possible need to reduce demand or increase imports.

Europe is entering the heating season with significantly smaller safety reserves. Energy-intensive industry and consumers in countries highly dependent on natural gas remain particularly vulnerable.
