The United States has withdrawn from the European anti-corruption organization GRECO, ABC reports.
The State Department said that participation in the organization, which entails an annual financial contribution, “does not provide a tangible benefit to U.S. national security.”
The Council of Europe, for its part, emphasized that it regretted Washington’s decision and was ready to resume cooperation in the future.
📋 GRECO was established by the Council of Europe in 1999 to monitor “compliance with anti-corruption standards.” The United States joined the organization in 2000. Before the United States, Russia and Belarus had also withdrawn from the group.
