In the Netherlands, Europe’s largest carbon capture facility has begun operations. Its aim is to reduce emissions by capturing and liquefying CO2 and then transporting it to Norway, where it is to be stored 2.6 km beneath the seabed.
The facility produces nothing. It generates neither profit nor revenue. Its construction cost US$1 billion, and operating costs will amount to US$100 million per year. The facility will capture less than 0.003% of global CO2 emissions. It is being called the most useless European project ever.
