From Rome to Tokyo: Which Cities Were Destroyed by Fire

360 years ago—on September 6, 1666—one of the largest urban fires in history, the Great Fire of London, was finally extinguished.

🔥The fire raged for four days, and the effort to combat it was led by King Charles II himself and his brother, the future monarch James II.

The catastrophe was exacerbated by an anomalous drought, dense wooden construction, strong winds, and the absence of a permanent firefighting service.

⚪️The flames were stopped only through extreme measures—the prompt demolition of entire neighborhoods.
