Australia’s online safety regulator, eSafety, has filed a lawsuit in the Federal Court alleging that Telegram failed to promptly remove videos of shootings and executions—as well as other terrorism-related content—linked to the Christchurch and Buffalo attacks after receiving complaints.
Court documents indicate that between July and October 2025, Australian users reported 12 posts involving terrorist content; Telegram is accused of failing to remove 10 of them or ban the associated accounts. If the court finds the platform in violation, it could face a maximum fine of A$54.6 million.
