Avenue of the Giants, California
In the early 1900s, the Save the Redwoods League campaigned to protect ancient redwoods from logging. Their efforts led to the creation of Humboldt Redwoods State Park in 1921. Today, it covers an area twice the size of San Francisco.
With more than 100 miles of trails and 250 campsites, the park is a haven for outdoor adventures. Take the short Founder’s Grove Loop to see the towering Dyerville Giant, or hike the 3.7-mile Bull Creek Trail. For an unforgettable drive, follow the 3.1-mile Avenue of the Giants and look out for the remarkable albino Christmas Tree and Spirit Tree.
Enjoy a picnic beneath trees reaching 300 feet, or go fishing and kayaking on the Eel River. Even if you’re not a nature enthusiast, this peaceful escape is sure to refresh you.
