The largest hot spring in the United States and the third largest in the world, Grand Prismatic Spring lies in Yellowstone National Park’s Midway Geyser Basin in Wyoming.

Its brilliant colors make it instantly recognizable: deep blue at the center, encircled by vivid rings of green, yellow, orange, and red. Heat-loving microorganisms create these colors as they thrive in the mineral-rich water at varying temperatures.
