The premiere 'Cherán vs Cartels'.

Ten unarmed women stand in the path of a lorry carrying illegally logged timber. In 2011, their act sparked the uprising in Cherán — a Mexican town where a drug cartel had spent years destroying the forests and terrorising local residents.

After receiving no help from the authorities, the townspeople block the roads into Cherán and form self-defence groups. Years later, they are still protecting the town and patrolling the surrounding forests. At what cost have the people of Cherán preserved their independence and kept the cartels from returning? Watch Natalia Karachkova and Tofurius Crane’s film.
