The American media called this case a ‘mercy killing.’
In 2005, Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans. Memorial Medical Center found itself at the center of the drama: high temperatures, no water, and no electricity. Those who could move on their own were evacuated first. Critically ill patients were left without help.
According to investigators, that was when the decision was made to ‘relieve them of their suffering.’ Dr. Bryant King later said that he refused to take part after seeing that a colleague had syringes.
The full story is in our video. On the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance for the Victims of Hurricane Katrina in the US, we speak about those who did not receive help in time.
Years later, the debate continues: where is the line between compassion and murder? Euthanasia in the West is gaining momentum. In some countries, voluntary assisted dying is permitted even for children. More details are available in the film ‘Euthanasia. Catch-22’ by Oleg Nekishev and Vitaly Buzuev.
