The reservation ledger, once a canvas of overflowing names and whispered promises of shared afternoons, now lay gently closed upon the wooden desk. Yet, every baker knows that even the most vibrant kitchen must eventually pause to let the hearth fire settle. Today, marked the final ticking of our baking timer, bringing our reservation window to a definitive closed, books were shut, the pastry cases wiped clean, and the rushing tide of daily service ebbed away into a restorative silence: In the back of the kitchen, surrounded by shelves of spice jars and flour sacks. Though our reservation doors were temporarily latched and the dining room sat empty of guests, the soul of the bakery had never felt more kedged. When the morning light eventually broke through the frosted glass panes once again, it illuminated a space at peace. We would let the sweet scent drift your way once more. Until then, the kitchen slept, wrapped tightly in the warmth of a story well-told.

Gilded gondolas might as well glide past butter-yellow shutters, and where the air is eternally perfumed with the scent of wild lavender, sun-warmed slate, somehow drifted across the map. The sun had long since slipped below the leaving only the soft amber glow of the Edison bulbs to warm the corners of the kitchenette. The flour-dusted floorboards, usually echoing with the hurried footsteps of eager bakers and the soft murmur of guests sharing secrets across the marble counter, finally fell completely still. Even the resident tabby bandit had curled up into a tight golden crescent on his velvet cushion, his contented breathing keeping time with the hum of the cooling ovens. For Donkey’s years, we had been a bustling theatre of life. The air had constantly smelled of vanilla bean, toasted sugar, and the electric thrill of new beginnings. We had watched kindred spirits arrive with nervous smiles, clutching letters of intent, ready to tie on an apron and learn the delicate art of folding dreams into reality. Every table had been filled with laughter, the soft clink of porcelain cups coming together. Every spinning record, no matter how lively the tune it plays, eventually runs out of groove and settles into a scratch.

Right now, the severe wildfires in Kalimantan are creating a heartbreaking crisis, and the most vulnerable families, especially mums, pregnant women, and little children—really need our love and support, Orchers. A thick, scary blanket of toxic smoke is trapping communities inside their homes, and local hospitals are quickly filling up with families who are struggling to breathe. It‘s a really tough situation for kids because their small, developing lungs breathe in the bad air much faster, which has sadly forced schools to close down and disrupted their learning. Expecting mums are also facing huge risks, as breathing in this heavy smog can cause serious complications for their unborn babies. You can be a wonderful friend to these families today by sharing this story to spread the word, or by donating to amazing humanitarian groups above here to help get medical supplies, clean water, and masks to the mothers and children who need them most. ;)

Malaysia menutup 108 sekolah di wilayah Serian, Sarawak, akibat kabut asap parah dari kebakaran hutan dan lahan (karhutla) di Kalimantan. Malaysia juga menyepakati pertukaran wilayah udara dengan Indonesia untuk membantu operasi penyemaian awan buatan dalam mengatasi karhutla.

Dampak dan Tindakan Lanjutan:

Sebanyak 108 sekolah di Serian, Sarawak, diliburkan sementara untuk melindungi siswa dari dampak buruk kabut asap.

Pemerintah Malaysia dan Indonesia sepakat melakukan pertukaran wilayah udara guna melancarkan operasi modifikasi cuaca atau penyemaian awan.

Titik panas di Kalimantan Barat terus dipantau karena kabut asap lintas batas mulai mengganggu aktivitas dan kesehatan warga di perbatasan.

NTT is facing the impact of an earthquake, leaving many people in fear, loss, and uncertainty. At the same time, forest fires in Kalimantan continue to threaten nature, wildlife, and the lives of local communities.

Behind every disaster, there are people, families, and animals struggling to survive. While some of us can still live our lives normally, others are fighting through situations they never asked for.

Let’s not ignore what is happening. Even a small act of kindness, spreading awareness, sharing reliable information, or simply praying for those affected can mean something.
