Ethereal Geometry: What Secret Lies Within These Branches?

A tree? A leaf? A nervous system? On April 9, 2012, National Geographic published Adriana Franco’s photo *Tree of Life*. It’s actually an aerial shot of dried riverbeds in Mexico’s desert. Nature reveals itself as a master artist through fractals — patterns where each part mirrors the whole, at any scale.

The physics deepens the wonder. River channels resemble Lichtenberg figures — branching scars from electric shocks. Both water and lightning follow the path of least resistance. Chaos yields to mathematical elegance, linking desert rivers and lightning strikes through universal fractal patterns.
