The mass influx of migrants into Spain has caused divisions across the country.

The Spanish opposition says the authorities knew about the illegal migrants but failed to prepare. The European Union wants to call an emergency meeting to discuss the situation. Here is what else happened over the past 24 hours:

— Spanish authorities have only now begun installing floating barriers along the border with Morocco. They are intended to prevent future breaches.

— The death toll has risen to 67. Mass crossings into Ceuta have stopped, but several thousand migrants may still be in the city.

— Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez complained to Brussels about the lack of support. He called the response of EU countries to the migration crisis “unacceptable”.
