°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・ ─── social research evening

sitting at a cafe with a close friend , I noticed something subtle... without realizing it, I leaned in whenever she did, picked up my cup at the exact same moment, and even caught myself adopting her speech cadence

it made me pause and think about how deeply our brains are wired for unconscious mimicry (often called the Chameleon Effect). we like to think we are 100% independent in our gestures, expressions, and moods, but cognitive science proves that human brains are automatic mirroring machines

𓇼 the science of mirroring
when we interact with someone, our mirror neurons fire spontaneously. we subconsciously copy facial expressions, body language, tone of voice, and even emotional states
it’s an evolutionary mechanism built to create rapport, empathy, and social connection without words

🩵 paper breakdown
"Spontaneous Mimicry of a Physically Present Android" (Hofree et al., PLOS ONE)

𓇼 key finding 1:
spontaneous facial mimicry happens automatically, even when people know they are looking at an artificial agent — as long as there is face-to-face physical presence

𓇼 key finding 2:
physical presence changes everything. watching someone on a screen elicits significantly weaker mimicry compared to sharing the exact same physical space. being in the room triggers our brain's social coordination algorithms at full force

🩵 main idea from it
this isn't just about copying gestures — it's a reminder of how heavily our physical environment shapes who we become
whether you realize it or not, you are constantly absorbing the micro-habits, energy, speech patterns, and mindset of the people you physically spend time with

if you surround yourself with people who are driven, kind, and focused, your brain will spontaneously mimic those traits. if you surround yourself with negativity or complaints, your subconscious will mirror that too

only one week left until school starts, and my brain is officially melting...

disappearing for two days because my life was pure chaos:
✧ 12 hours of economics webinars & homework
✧ startup micro-tasks for Cleri
✧ watched Spider-Man at the cinema 🕸
✧ went to the gym for the very first time (and loved it!)

and in the middle of all this, I caught myself falling into the comparison trap

I look around and see two extremes: people my age building massive projects and making serious money, vs. people carelessly enjoying their summer without a single worry. and I’m constantly torn right in the middle

but comparison completely robs us of daily joy

🩵august 2025 vs. august 2026

in August 2025, I was just sitting in parks scrolling TikTok

fast forward one year:
— got a red diploma (despite getting a 3 in 8th grade computer science)
— entered into Letovo school
— deep into admission abroad
— got B2 in English
— found hundreds new acquaintances
— spoke at an international UN event
— accepted on an Oxford summer program & work my own startup
.....etc

✨takeaway for y'all
even if someone out there achieved something "cooler," list everything that shifted in your life over the past year. your progress might feel small compared to someone else’s peak, but it is still infinitely greater than zero

every step forward is quietly laying the foundation for your next massive leap

and now I'm going to continue econ ofc

[ 20 . 08 ] ──°•❀•°── stability != progress

I caught myself falling into a pattern lately: I keep walking down the exact same streets, ordering the same drinks, and studying in the exact same cafes.

😈 stability feels safe and comfortable, but it doesn't bring progress or new memories. if you never change your environment or introduce friction, your days just blend into one long loop

I wanted to read something around this topic and found a novel:

🩵"The Comfort Zone" — Brian W. Aldiss

about the book:
set in Oxford, the story revolves around local politics, architectural changes, and intersecting lives in a suburban town. it subtly explores human inertia — how people build physical and mental walls around themselves just to avoid discomfort and change.

* a reminder to break your daily loops and try a new route today 🪸🌸

it's still summer but my gallery full of autumn vibe pictures, why...

I'm absolutely obsessed of this song...

🤩 it has this heavy, noble, medieval atmosphere — almost like stepping onto a battlefield with quiet grace and determination

as a self-taught figure skater btw, I was really impressed of this song as a program performance feature so I`ve already mapping out some the elements in my head 🤩🤩

back in the city, and the rhythm instantly picked up... 📷🤩

the past few days have been a total shift from quiet country walks to full-on execution mode

🩵 first of all, I officially started working on my UWC (United World Colleges) application, and I’m honestly slightly terrified by the sheer amount of essays required. every prompt demands deep self-reflection, and trying to articulate who you actually are on paper takes so much mental energy. but it’s such an exciting process

🩵 at the same time, we're actively pushing forward with Cleri (our startup). we've been grinding on our content strategy, SMM, and finishing up the website development because our first official launch is coming up very soon
🤩 on the study front, I finally managed to close almost all of my summer economics debts, wrote my first practice exam, and now I’m moving into global trade and international markets
🎟 and on a evening break, I finally watched Split (2016). James McAvoy’s acting was insane — watching him seamlessly shift between 23 completely different personalities in a single scene blew my mind

city life is fully back. heading back to my UWC essay drafts now...
