YouTube has started blocking ad blockers.

YouTube Premium subscribership grew to a record 80 million users in 2022, and Google responded by investing more into its subscription offerings.

Recently, one Redditor encountered a popup informing them that "Ad blockers are not allowed on YouTube" and offered a button to "Allow YouTube ads" in their ad blocking software.

This experiment could be a sign of things to come, as Google has long been at odds with ad blockers and wants to ensure that the only way to not see ads is by shelling out $12 a month for a Premium membership.
