🇺🇳 On October 16, 1945, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (#FAO) was established – a UN specialised agency leading international efforts to combat hunger.
The Organisation was officially founded at its first Conference in Quebec. Since 1951, FAO headquarters have been located in Rome.
On April 11, 2006, Russia ratified the FAO Constitution and became a full member of this UN specialised agency.
🌐 At present, the Organisation comprises 193 member states, one member organisation (the European Union) and two associate members – the Faroe Islands and Tokelau.
The Organisation’s work is focused on eradicating hunger and tackling food security and malnutrition.
The FAO is geared towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), above all SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and also contributes to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through a transition to more efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agri-food systems.
🇷🇺 Russia remains a responsible and constructive partner of the FAO. Projects funded by our country through the Organisation are aimed at strengthening the agro-industrial capacity of partner countries and addressing their pressing socioeconomic challenges.
