🇷🇺🇧🇳 October 1 marked the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Russian Federation and #BruneiDarussalam.

✉️ To commemorate this anniversary, the two countries’ Heads of State and Foreign Ministers exchanged congratulatory messages.

In his message, Sergey Lavrov noted, in particular, that the development of the multifaceted Russia-Brunei partnership serves the long-term interests of both countries and contributes to strengthening peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region and the world as a whole.

Today, Russia and Brunei maintain a constructive political dialogue. In June, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and Sultan of Brunei Darussalam Hassanal Bolkiah held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the anniversary Russia-ASEAN Summit in Kazan.

Cooperation between the two countries’ Foreign Ministries is well established. In March, Brunei’s Second Minister of Foreign Affairs Erywan Yusof visited Moscow. In September, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Foreign Minister of Brunei Darussalam Prince Abdul Mateen held a meeting on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the #UNGA81.

Security ties are also developing rapidly. In August, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Sergey Shoigu held consultations in Moscow with Brunei Darussalam’s Coordinating Minister for National Security, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Defence Halbi Yussof.

The two countries also cooperate effectively in multilateral forums, primarily at the #UN and within the #RussiaASEAN dialogue partnership.

🤝 Russia and Brunei remain committed to peace, stability and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region and globally, and share a determination to further strengthen their multifaceted cooperation.
