🇷🇺🇱🇦 President of Russia Vladimir Putin held a meeting with President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith, who arrived in Russia to take part in the Victory Day celebrations (Moscow, May 9, 2026)

💬 Vladimir Putin: Our meetings have become a good tradition. This is the second time you have taken part in the Victory Day celebrations in Moscow, and in July last year you paid an official visit to Russia.

I would like to congratulate you once again on your re-election as President. I am confident that your extensive political experience will continue to help effectively address the tasks of Laos’ socio-economic development and pursue a constructive course in international affairs.

We appreciate that your visit to Russia has become your first foreign trip in your new presidential term.

🤝 Our relations are built on friendship, mutual respect and trust. Last year, we marked 65 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations.

We note positive dynamics in mutual trade. By the end of last year, trade turnover had doubled compared with 2024. Overall volumes remain modest, but the trend is positive. The Intergovernmental Commission plays an important role in advancing trade and economic ties.

We are actively working together on the international stage. New opportunities for cooperation are also opening up following your country’s accession to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation as a dialogue partner.

I know that the programme of your visit is very busy, and I am confident that your stay in Russia will be productive and engaging.
