⚡️🇻🇦 — Pope Leo XIV made his first major public appearance on Sunday since undergoing surgery to remove a cancerous lung growth, leading the Angelus prayer from the Apostolic Palace balcony overlooking St. Peter’s Square, CNN
➡️ The 71-year-old pontiff thanked his doctors and everyone who prayed for him, saying the experience had brought him closer to people suffering from illness. He said he would gradually resume his papal duties following his recovery.
➡️ Leo was discharged from Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on Saturday after surgery to remove a lung growth diagnosed as adenocarcinoma, a common form of lung cancer. His surgeon, Professor Stefano Margaritora, said there were no clinical reasons preventing the pope from making his planned Latin America trip from November 6–17.
➡️ The visit is expected to include Uruguay, Argentina and Peru, where Leo previously served as a missionary and bishop. The itinerary includes Cusco, at an altitude of around 3,350 metres, presenting an additional consideration during his recovery.
