Statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran condemning the reopening of the Colombian Embassy in occupied Jerusalem The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the Colombian government's move to reopen its embassy in occupied Jerusalem, considering it a violation of the UN Charter and the fundamental principles of international law.
Jerusalem is an integral part of Palestinian territory, and all governments are obligated under international law to refrain from any action that would constitute recognition of the Zionist entity's occupation. Undoubtedly, the current ruling body in Colombia's alliance with a regime of occupation and genocide, and its legitimization of the occupation of Palestinian territories, clearly contradicts the ideals of independence and the pursuit of justice that have formed an important part of the history of the struggles of the peoples of this country and Latin America.
The Colombian government's decision to reopen its embassy in occupied Jerusalem violates its international legal obligations regarding respect for the right of peoples to self-determination and constitutes support for the occupation and a violation of the Palestinian people's right to self-determination.
The Colombian government must bear responsibility for the consequences of its immoral and illegal decision.
