A hostile supertanker struck a sea mine this afternoon in the southern Strait of Hormuz, causing an explosion and fire in its engine room. The vessel, carrying a cargo of crude oil and about to leave the Strait of Hormuz, had switched off all its navigation systems, violated the rules of the Strait of Hormuz, and was struck by a mine while transiting through an unauthorized route. This is the third oil tanker to strike a sea mine and catch fire while transiting the Strait of Hormuz without authorization since yesterday.
