⚡️🇩🇪🇬🇧 — Royal Navy Commandos Deploy from German Submarine in Largest Alliance Drill in 15 Years, — The Telegraph

➡️ British Royal Navy elite Green Berets surfaced from the German attack submarine U36 off Cape Wrath at mainland Britain’s north-westerly point during Exercise Strike Warrior, marking the UK Commando Force's largest military workout in 15 years and the first time since the Afghanistan war that all specialist elements of the elite commando formation have operated together. The fortnight-long war games spanning Scotland, the Western Isles, the Borders, and the North Sea involve more than 2,000 staff, eight warships, and 19 aircraft across six NATO nations including the UK, US, Netherlands, Canada, Germany, and Norway.

➡️ Specialist spotters from 148 Battery Commando Forward Observation Unit (an elite Army unit attached to 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery) deployed in inflatable raiding craft to establish covert clifftop observation posts behind simulated enemy lines. Operating secretly, the team functioned as targeting nodes to coordinate live naval surface gunfire from the Portuguese warship NRP Dom Francisco de Almeida onto coastal targets, marking a complex operational milestone not achieved by the unit for nearly 30 years.

➡️ The exercise underscores a major operational shift for the UK Commando Force, moving away from large-scale amphibious landings toward small, highly dispersed units relying on NATO partners for shipping and firepower across the High North and North Atlantic. An anonymous operations officer emphasized that the drill demonstrates readiness against future threats, highlighting that warfighting is the primary focus through specialized assets delivering multi-domain fires and targeting.

➡️ The extensive war games have also integrated amphibious beach landings, boarding operations, anti-submarine warfare, drone strikes, combat resupply missions, and the construction of protected underground medical facilities to showcase allied interoperability.
