โก๏ธ๐ฎ๐ท๐ซ๐ท โ Iran's Foreign Ministry summoned French Ambassador to Tehran Nicolas Roche to protest Paris's violent crackdown on student demonstrations and widespread human rights violations, according to ISNA.
The envoy was summoned Tuesday afternoon by Hamid Ahmadi, acting director-general for human rights at the Iranian Foreign Ministry, who reminded the French government of its obligations under international treaties and demanded respect for fundamental rights, particularly the right to peaceful assembly.
Ahmadi expressed severe concern over the violent response of French security forces to peaceful gatherings, which has resulted in injuries and disability among protesters, including the blinding of some, as well as the arrest of over 5,000 individuals. He stressed that such a level of violence is completely unjustifiable.
He also pointed to published reports and images showing armed police and security forces entering classrooms and beating students and teachers, calling for an independent mechanism to investigate the violations and follow up on reports of excessive force and the violation of school premises.
Highlighting the legitimate demands of protesters for the right to education and a fair, non-discriminatory system, Ahmadi urged France to respect the legal rights of its citizens, especially the younger generation, and to prosecute the perpetrators of these abuses.
