⚡️🇺🇸🇬🇧🇮🇷 — The Pentagon said the U.S. military evacuated the 12 B-1 bombers from RAF Fairford; a U.S. official said the base was under threat of an Iranian attack. The Pentagon added that its bomber force (B-1, B-2 and B-52) “remain ready to deliver precision global strike capabilities — including through operations that launch and recover from the continental United States.” — Axios / NYT

➡️ The withdrawal was carried out with unusual speed after U.S. commanders received new intelligence on an Iran-backed plot targeting the base, according to reporting; some bombers and aircrews departed for the U.S. while tanker aircraft mobilized to support them were still preparing. Intelligence assessments indicated potential follow-on attacks could involve drones, while the rapid evacuation of combat aircraft from an allied base outside a war zone was described as particularly unusual.
