⚡️🇺🇸🇬🇧 — The U.S. has withdrawn nearly all of its B-1B Lancer strategic bombers from RAF Fairford in the UK, with more than half of the bombers previously stationed there having returned to their home bases in the United States, marking the end of a temporary deployment, according to the Wall Street Journal and flight-tracking sources.
Ten of the twelve B-1B Lancers at the base have departed, with the final two expected to leave, meaning no U.S. strategic bombers will remain at RAF Fairford. The bombers are returning to their home bases, including Minot Air Force Base and Dyess Air Force Base, as well as Andersen Air Force Base in Guam.
RAF Fairford served as the primary forward operating base for U.S. heavy bombers in Europe, with the aircraft having participated in operations against Iran. The withdrawal comes after U.S. President Donald Trump reacted verbally to the release of all suspects arrested near the base.
British counter-terrorism police, investigating a suspected plot linked to the Fairford incident, have released on bail a 25-year-old man holding British and Iranian citizenship who had been arrested on suspicion of planning terrorist acts. The incident began near the base when five people in their twenties were arrested near three vans on suspicion of "terrorism and explosives offenses." They were later released on bail without charge, and while investigators found fuel in the vans, no improvised explosive device was found.
