The Iranian President requested the meeting, and I accepted immediately. I also requested meetings with other presidents and officials, and we met with a large number of countries whose support for Lebanon is important to us.
We do not interfere in Iran's affairs. Have you ever seen Lebanon support an opposition faction in Iran, side with one party against another, or interfere in the political choices of the Iranians? Certainly not.
There is a long history of relations between Lebanon and Iran, and we want to open a new chapter. In this regard, we would prefer Iran to appoint a new ambassador to Lebanon, as that would facilitate the transition to a new stage in relations.
The issue of Iranian aviation is different, as it relates to matters concerning airport safety. The safety of the airport and passengers is my priority, and we hope this will be understood.
