⚡️🇮🇷🇺🇸 — Hormuz LNG Shipments Hit New Highs Amid Regional Tensions, — Reuters
➡️ Liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments through the Strait of Hormuz rose in September to their highest monthly level since the US-Israeli war on Iran began, reaching 19 to 21 cargoes (13 from Qatar and 6 from the UAE), up from 15 in June, according to analytics firms S&P Global Energy and Kpler. S&P senior principal analyst Eric Yep noted that transits accelerated in the second half of September and could recover to 25% of pre-war levels if maintained into October.
➡️ Multiple QatarEnergy-linked vessels—laden and in ballast—transited the strait recently. Three specific vessels reappeared off India's west coast: Al Kharaitiyat (last seen in the strait on Sept 22-23, reappeared off India on Sept 29-30), Al Gharrafa (vanished from tracking inside the strait on Sept 23-24, reappeared off India on Sept 30), and Milaha Qatar (managed by Germany's Pronav Ship Management, last seen in the strait on Sept 17-21, now offloading cargo at India's western port of Hazira). QatarEnergy did not immediately respond to a request for comment, while Pronav declined to comment.
➡️ Many vessels continue making "dark transits" by switching off their Automatic Identification System (AIS) transponders to avoid detection. Analyst Eric Yep warned that sustaining these shipments through the winter hinges on two critical factors: whether Iran will resort to higher military escalation if increased exports are seen as a loss of leverage, and whether high-cost US naval-escorted shipping convoys can continue. Before the war began on February 28, the Strait of Hormuz carried roughly a fifth of global crude oil and LNG supplies.
